Inner Wheel Club of Wrington Vale
Chartered 15th June 1978
Meet at the Holiday Inn, Cowslip Green, BS40 5RB at 18.30
on the 2nd Thursday of the month.
Once upon a time there was a group of ladies who decided to reach out to those in need of their help and attention. These ladies – part of a Nationwide, and indeed a Worldwide Organisation - were determined to help wherever and whenever they could. Those who have been reading of our exploits so far will not be surprised to hear we have turned our attention to Easter!
Stuck in our homes we have been knitting, first blankets for those with dementia and now chicks. Two talented members have knitted 10 rabbits and over 125 chicks then stuffed them with cream eggs. These were delivered to Weston Hospice for their fundraising campaign. Squares for the blankets have been flooding in while others have knitted toys for sale by local charities. As well as seasonal items several members have also been knitting hats, gloves and bootees for newborns in St Michael’s and other local baby units.
The original founder members of our Club six of whom are still members!
Wrington Vale have started 2021 as they mean to go on by collecting nine black bags of hats, gloves and scarves for the Salvation Army. These were delivered by our Treasurer Jacky to the Salvation Army in Weston-super-Mare. The reason Jacky took the bags was that she had already sent them a cheque for £500 which was the sum donated by members in lieu of sending each other Christmas cards.
As we were unable to have our usual Inner Wheel Day get-together, we lit candles instead and put them in our windows. This was a small but essential gesture in these strange times and a reminder of the friendships we hold dear. Here are 10 pictures of our candles.
I have to tell you that I did not check that all the chicks contained an egg! Who knows where they went? But I’m sure they all lived happily ever after.
